This is a great way for us to collaborate and share ideas about our upcoming author visit. As editors of the page you can edit ,add to, and link to any information you like.
General Information
Here's the blurb we've been sending out about what we do and cost: Our target audience is 3rd, 4th & 5th grades, although we do K-6 as well. Our talk runs about 45 minutes, including Q&A. We do a maximum of three talks a day (after that, energy starts to flag), plus a drop-in or two for
the little ones if requested. (At Centeno, I will plan three shows one for 3rd, 4th, and 5th and I will request a drop in to one 2nd, 1st, and if possible one Kinder class. The drops in are about 10 minutes long)
Any size audience is okay, from a dozen to a thousand. For crowds larger than 100, we plug our microphones into your P.A. system. We prefer libraries to cafeterias and cafeterias to gyms, because of the echo factor. It works best when the kids sit on the floor. We can present down on the floor or up on a stage. (At Centeno, I am inviting parents to come. The Montgomery's welcome parents. All shows excluding drop-ins will be held in the library)
Our rate is $1,000 a day, but including expenses. That's all in -- airfare, ground
tranfers, hotels, meals, the works. (This will also save a lot of paperwork for everyone.)

Contests
At Centeno...The week before the visit I will be passing out and talking about the contest we will have to spur interest in the book/authors. Entitled "This is a Wheel, What Else Could it be..." 3rd-5th graders will recieve a handout that challenges them to take an ordinary wheel and change it in to something else. It won't be a hands-on activity but rather a drawing activity. (If you have your 30 GT hours then you know what I'm referring to). The 3rd graders have already done the story Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, as did the 4th and 5th graders who preceded them, so you can use that story to explain the idea behind the contest. In the story pizza is turned into a sailboat - mashed potatoes are snow covered mountains and so on... (Flyer pending)
Book Sales
Book sales can either be done through our publisher's "Special Sales" department (Erin Hendricks, 646-307-5370), or through a local independent or chain bookstore. We've worked with Borders, B&N, or anybody who seems competent and is able to help with pre-sales and order forms.
I will look into calling Erin Hendricks Monday,
September 30th to arrange something. Please chime in here if interested. Depending on her response will determine what flyer I send out. This is the draft.
